This is from the Book of Lists, published 1976, under the heading "15 Favourite Oddities of All-Time": "On December 5, 1664, the first in the greatest series of coincidences in history occurred. On this date, aship in the Menai Strait, off North Wales, sank with 81 passengers on board. There was one survivor- a man named Hugh Williams. On the same date in 1785, a ship sank with 60 passengers on board. There was one survivor- a man named Hugh Williams. On the very same date in 1860, a ship sank with 25 passengers on board. there was one survivor- a man named Hugh Williams."

Morgan Robertson's book "Futility," published in 1898 (14 years before Titanic left her berth), details the story of the world's largest liner, some 800 feet long, with the rich and powerful aboard, striking an iceberg on her maiden voyage on an April night, and most of the passengers perishing for want of sufficient lifeboats. Better yet, one of Robertson's later books (indeed, his latest one when Titanic went down) chronicled a massive war in the Pacific beginning with a Japanese surprise attack on an American naval base in Hawaii and ending when American planes dropped massively destructive "sun bombs" on Japan.
It's a pretty amazing coincidence that the sun and the moon appear to be exactly the same size when viewed from the surface of the earth, thus allowing total solar eclipses to occur.
this one IS an urban myth but is based on a real story from years ago involving the AA ( the call out service in the UK when your car breaks down) The general story is: AA employee is on holiday in cornwall,taking a walk he walks past a phone box.The phone rings(this did happen in britain-many people used phone boxes to communicate as a land line wasnt readily available when the Post office ran telecoms) The AA man answers the phone-to find the AA office secretary on the other end " hello pat! what on earth?.."Hello john(john is the AA Man) i was just ringing to confirm your change of address details" (recently moved house) But how did pat know he was walking past a phone box 350 miles from where he lived!!?? -She clearly didnt,What had happened was this (simplified for example)

By a billion to one chance the number was the call box he just happened to be walking past at the time-this happened in the 1970s,early 70s .But was rehashed & chinese whispers added to it,when the internet got hold it went viral & is now told at dinner parties,as this has now happened to lots of people (dont think so lol) fabulous coincidence though.
